Neil Payne’s short film Alpa Phi showed at Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2016. He let me know that he had a lot to get off his chest about filmmaking, about what it’s like to make films that challenge people, and about the challenges of life after film school.
When I approached Neil about doing the Discover Film podcast, he asked me to look at a commercial spec spot that he shot. I found it so bold and direct, that I decided to make this one of the rare times that a filmmaker gets more than one piece of work embedded with their podcast. (It doesn’t hurt that it’s 30 seconds.)
